This DIYables adapter puts a 2.1 x 5.5mm male DC barrel plug on the end of bare wire without soldering. The plug end goes into any standard DC input jack, and the opposite end is a green two-position screw terminal: strip the wire, drop it into the terminal, tighten the screw, and the connection is done. Polarity is moulded into the housing with clear plus and minus symbols beside each terminal, so centre positive wiring is unambiguous.
The terminal block is on a 5mm pitch and accepts wire from 16 to 26 AWG, which spans everything from thin signal-gauge hookup wire up to the heavier conductors used for LED strip runs and camera feeds. Because the connection is mechanical rather than soldered, a wire can be released and re-terminated as many times as needed, which makes these useful during prototyping as well as in the finished build.

Observe the plus and minus markings on the housing when terminating wires. Reversing polarity can damage the connected device.
