Quick Overview
This DIYables adapter powers a USB-C device from an ordinary DC supply. A 2.1 x 5.5mm female barrel socket on one end accepts a standard DC adapter plug, and a USB Type-C male plug on the other goes directly into the device. The whole thing is a single rigid moulding with no cable, so it sits on the end of the incoming power lead and adds almost no length.
The adapter is a power-only passthrough wired centre positive, matching the convention of nearly every barrel-jack wall adapter. It is the quickest way to run USB-C powered hardware from a bench supply, a spare DC wall adapter, or a barrel-jack power distribution setup without cutting a cable. Being passive, it has no regulator and no USB power delivery negotiation, so the voltage that reaches the device is simply whatever the DC source provides — use a 5V source for standard USB-C hardware.
Ideal for development boards with USB-C power inputs, single board computers, USB-C hubs and peripherals, and any USB-C device that needs to run from a DC supply rather than a computer or charger. This listing includes 5 adapters.
Key Features
- DC Barrel Socket to USB-C Plug — Accepts a 2.1 x 5.5mm DC adapter plug and outputs to a USB Type-C male connector
- Centre Positive Wiring — Matches the polarity convention used by standard barrel-jack power adapters
- Reversible USB-C Connector — The Type-C plug goes in either way round, with no orientation to check
- Rigid One-Piece Body — No cable to coil or snag; the adapter mounts straight onto the DC lead
- Power Only Passthrough — Passive design with no electronics, drivers, or configuration
- Solderless Conversion — Avoids cutting and splicing a USB-C cable to fit a DC supply
- Reuses Existing Adapters — Puts spare barrel-jack wall adapters and bench supplies back to work
- Compact Footprint — Short moulded body adds minimal depth behind the powered device
- Works With DC Distribution — Pairs with barrel-jack splitters and screw terminal adapters for multi-device power
- 5 Pack — Five adapters for multiple devices, workshop stock, or spares

※ NOTE THAT:
This adapter carries power only. It does not pass USB data, so it cannot be used to program a board or transfer files.
It is a passive adapter with no USB Power Delivery negotiation and no voltage regulation. The device receives whatever the DC source supplies, so use a 5V source for standard USB-C hardware. Devices that require PD negotiation to draw power may not start from a passive adapter.
Confirm the DC supply is centre positive before connecting.
COMPATIBLE HARDWARE
- DC wall adapters with a 5.5 x 2.1mm plug — Standard centre positive barrel output
- Bench power supplies with a barrel output — Set to 5V for USB-C devices
- Development boards with a USB-C power input — ESP32, ESP32-S3, and similar boards
- Single board computers with USB-C power — Requires a source matching the board's voltage and current needs
- USB-C hubs and peripherals — Powered from a DC source instead of a charger
- DC power splitter cables — Feed several adapters from one supply
- DC screw terminal adapters — Wire a bare DC supply into the barrel socket
- Any USB-C device needing power only — Data lines are not connected and PD is not negotiated
