Quick Overview
This DIYables power cable turns any USB port into a 5.5 x 2.1mm DC barrel supply. One end is a standard USB Type-A plug, the other is a male barrel plug wired centre positive, and the run between them is 100cm (3.28 feet), long enough to reach from a USB charger, power bank, or hub to a device on the bench without an extension.
It is a straight power lead rather than a converter, so the voltage it delivers is whatever the source provides. Fed from a normal 5V USB port it supplies 5V, and fed from a 12V source with a USB-A output it passes 12V through. The conductor is rated to 2.5A maximum, which covers the great majority of small barrel-jack devices: LED strips, CCTV and IP cameras, small routers and switches, USB hubs, audio gear, and development boards that take a barrel input.
Ideal for powering barrel-jack equipment from the USB supplies already on a desk, running an LED strip from a power bank, or replacing a lost wall adapter on a low-current device. This listing includes 2 cables.
Key Features
- USB A to 5.5 x 2.1mm Barrel Plug — Connects any standard USB Type-A source to a device with a 5.5 x 2.1mm DC input
- Centre Positive Polarity — Wired to the usual convention for barrel-jack electronics, matching most factory adapters
- 100cm Cable Length — A full metre (3.28 feet) of reach from charger, power bank, or hub to the powered device
- 2.5A Maximum Current — Handles LED strips, cameras, routers, and small electronics without an oversized supply
- Passes 5V or 12V — Delivers whatever the source provides, so it suits both 5V USB ports and 12V USB-A outputs
- Moulded Strain Relief — Both connector bodies are moulded onto the cable to resist pull and flexing at the joints
- No Adapter Brick Needed — Reuses phone chargers, power banks, and hub ports already on the desk
- Flexible Black Jacket — Slim, flexible insulation that routes neatly along a bench or inside an enclosure
- Portable Power Option — Runs barrel-jack devices from a USB power bank for field and mobile use
- 2 Pack — Two cables for separate projects or a spare

※ NOTE THAT:
This is a passive cable, not a voltage converter. It delivers exactly the voltage supplied by the source. A 5V USB port will supply 5V, not 12V, so confirm the powered device accepts the source voltage before connecting.
Check the polarity required by the device. This cable is centre positive; connecting it to a centre-negative device can cause damage.
